Roll, release, ride!

These clinics introduce concepts and tools to equestrians to strengthen the mind/body connection, proprioception and bring awareness to our strengths, weaknesses, balances and imbalances. As riders bring awareness to these areas, they create space for better alignment and balance.

This class will explore self-myofascial release and mind/body connection for equestrians.

Topics explored include:

• what is fascia/connective tissue

• how does it affect our bodies and riding?

• compensation patterns, overuse, and injuries associated to our connective tissue

• methods for releasing myofascial restrictions and tension

This class will combine various modalities, including rolling with small roller balls (about the size of tennis balls), yoga poses, breath work and meditation.

The benefits of self-myofascial release can include reducing muscle tension and imbalances, and increasing range of motion.

No previous experience with rolling or yoga necessary!

This half day clinic focusses on mind/body connection and rider biomechanics. The day begins with a 90 minute introduction to mindfulness and a self-myofascial release yoga class using roller balls.

(See above ON THE MAT EDITION description).

Then, a 30 minute break to tack up and have a snack.

The following 2 hours are spent in the saddle, beginning with mindfulness exercises in the saddle and then introducing the franklin balls. Coach Stephanie Dewes will provide a lesson, going through rider biomechanics while riders use the franklin balls.

There are 5 different types of balls so we spend the lesson rotating through them and using them in different areas (thighs, under seat and arms). The lesson focusses more on rider than horse, beginning to analyze how we are using our body as aids and creating muscle memory with and without the balls.
